Eid al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world, which marks the end of the 30-day fasting of Ramadan. This year, Eid was marked on May 2nd 2022. The word ‘Eid’ translates to “festival” or “feast” in Arabic.
“Laughter is brightest in the place where food is.”
What’s for lunch?
Majoreni (where our farm is located) is predominantly a Muslim area, and three quarters of our employees were observing this day. It was very difficult for the employees who were fasting to be working under the scorching sun and abstain from eating or even taking water.
To ensure we maintain productivity of the employees, we devised a mechanism where the Muslims were given an opportunity to report to work as early as 06:00 a.m. and leave earlier after they meet their target. Due to the fact that they do not take Lunch and water breaks they had saved an hour and a half a day meaning that even though they were clocking out early, it did not affect their work. In a move to uphold cultural and religious diversity in the organization, we honoured our Muslim colleagues just as we do it for Christians during Christmas, by organizing a special lunch.
“Good food is always sweeter when shared with good colleagues.”
We had the local_text] delicacy called Pilau, beef stew and fish, accompanied with Soda. It’s the small things that count. The employees appreciated the gesture, which was a surprise as they were not aware we were going to make them a special meal.
